Barry,
I'm new to the CBG world but.....WOW... I'm impressed, Rick is a talented player. But that box is a tone monster!! What kind of pickup did you use? And is that mounted directly to the cover plate?

I feel the saame way. I tell Rick I'm a quadruple threat. I suck on guitar, bass, lap steel and vocals. He and his brother have "the gift". I can build/ fix em better than I can play em. Goodwill or thrift stores are great resources for resonator parts. Anthing from sauce pot tops, to tub drain grates. Don't use cheese graters or you'll loose a finger!

Oh, oh, oh! Pictures! Please!
I'll put up some more photos of my toys tonight, but they aren't CBG's. But tomorrow I'm cutting up a stack of fretboards (once you get the templates etc set up, you might as well crank and stow what you don't need right away). If that's a lid for a saucepan, then I'll be danged. Will put one on my next CBG, for sure.

Seriously, if I lived forever I could become "good" at guitar. To get to Rick's level I think calls for the correct genes. Funny things, genes. I have one sister who was a fine musician as a child, while the other rode horses like someone born to the saddle. Almost goes without saying that the musician had horsey kids, while the equestrian had kids with musical talents. Due to a tragic accident, I was born with a tin ear... no, not really, I can tune a guitar and played trumpet while in school, but I was average. I just want to play guitar well enough that when someone asks "how does that guitar you finished sound?" I won't just blush and ask them the same question.

I'll put some pics up soon of the inside of these if you like. It's just One way of many to skin a cat.

Alan, you are funny. I've been playing almost as long as Rick and can't hold a candle to him, but that's not really the point when you really get down to it is it. I was lucky to get two boxes of the same type and we made the electric and the acoustic at the same time. I used sauce pot tops from mom's kitchen and pot rests for theresonator sound. A lot of folks arrive at this with cookie tins etc. The fun of it is to use what you can find and see if it works! Look around this site and people will astound you with their ingenuity. Welcome.

Son of a GUN! I've just started learning guitar, I can sound like this in a couple months, no?

Seriously, killer box in the hands of a pro. Is this the same ax as you had Rick playing in your other, acoustic, video? Looks like you have a new cover on that. I'd love to learn how to add resonators. The kids working the local guitar store are NOT going to unstring a resonator Uke or anything else for me, sad to say. Any suggestions?

Keep up the good work.

Another sweet tone! As others say, the "dumpster diving..." is cool!
