Thanks guys. Nice to hear of other ways.  I often clamp my necks to my bench but I like the free hand vise too. I can move easily with this method and get good results. I love my StuMac razor’s. Ain’t cheep but not out of reach.

Interesting Dave!, definitely a hands on approach to shaping what is going to be a beautiful Neck, and definitely using more patience than this "Little Black Duck" is capable of, I usually take off the bulk with a 45 degree chamfer router bit, and then round off the rest with a Spoke Shave  :-)

I could use a mask, however. sneezing sawdust probably isn't healthy. i sand the neck till i can't see the head stock through the sawdust stars that fill the air. sand paper cuts, like the mills of the God's, that grind slowly but exceedingly fine. i just turn and flip, change grits, turn and flip. :D

a vice is nice, but watching Dave shape the neck with the razor is a random move and hit the wood where you feel like it, and it takes a smoother form. my paintbrush is the orbital sander. hours of it.

I see you need a vice, gives you one free hand! and it dont clutter up your sweater ! Dave! but it must be how they did it on the road! shaping and grinding ! pennife probebly! Razor files ,are not that common in those day's ! a other day ,a other build !

sharp indeed, nice sound track. how about not so sharp? just picked up a prehistoric flat blade screwdriver and a super long 1/2 inch drill bit for 50 cents. also not so sharp. pretty though.

Mighty fine head stock too.

Yup.  Purty much as  BQ said.  That file works wonders.  I use a four in hand, but I think yours might be superior.  I may look at files next time I go to Maynards (AKA Menards).
