Proud Mary on the Jeffrey Ross 3 String CBG

Jeff sent me this guitar to play and comment on. Good job on the git my friend and the only suggestions/comments I had concerned my own personal preferences ...

Yup Jeff, like I said, so many of these details fall into the personal preference category. Yeah, customers don't line up at my door either. Playing and demonstrating helps sales when I do craft shows. Hey man, I made a couple of CB Fiddles before I figured I'd better learn to play. That was at age 60 and retired from full time employment so I had the required time. Even without a local teacher there are lots of good instructionals right here on CBN so no excuses. lol.

As for the spacing, I have short fingers so I keep strings about 3/8" apart. String height, again strong hands so pressing further doesn't bother me. Although, it would probably make barr chords easier if it was lower. As for how long you keep it, take your time. I have plenty to play with and customers are not lining up at the door.

Just started a new build today using an electrical breaker cover as a center piece. Kind of like a resonator but different. I will get some pics posted when its done.

As for playing, I need to find someone around here to teach me a bit about music etc....Anybody from the Worcester, Mass area?

Yeah, I think you have a real good clue about these things now! Next step is to learn how to play them a little bit.  The only change I've made is to widen the string spacing by putting the two G strings closer to the edge of the neck. I've lowered the action on some of mine by using a smaller diameter bolt or, as you said, by deepening the groove. But you know, the action might be perfect as it is for another person. I'll message you about how long I can keep it before I have to start making payments or send it back.

Thanks to all for your generous approval of my guitar. I started with no tools and no clue two years ago. I think I have come a long way but still have a long way to go.

Jim,

If you feel the desire to modify or change something on that git, go right ahead. I would like to see what other people are doing and pictures are not a great reference. I know lowering the action can be done by deepening the groove where the nut is. Easy fix. As for the magnetic p/u, I haven't tried any yet.

Have fun with it and thanks again.
