Proud Mary on the Jeffrey Ross 3 String CBG

Jeff sent me this guitar to play and comment on. Good job on the git my friend and the only suggestions/comments I had concerned my own personal preferences ...

Thanks Jeffrey. I was happy to do it. Don't make too many changes on account of my comments! There's lots of different ways to make a good sounding instrument and this one sounds good. The personal preference details are going to vary widely from player to player and most can be easily adjusted to suit one's style. Keep up the good work!

Hi Anna, congrats on your first build! Action height refers to the distance the strings are from the fretboard. It's largely a matter of personal preference and playing style. Generally speaking, a high action is good for playing slide and lower is good for fretting with your fingers. If you remove the back you can easily make it electric by sticking a piezo on the top. As I mentioned, I prefer mag pickups but pizo may be easier. Either way you'll also need a 1/4" jack to wire it to so you can plug it in. Sometimes you can get it pre-wired so you don't have solder anything. If you post any questions you have on the front page under the blogs (add a discussion) I'm pretty sure you'll get an abundance of help - we don't all agree on stuff so you'll have to sort through it and decide which way to go.

Hi

I am new to cbg and just finished my first build.  I did do a through neck and it is acoustic.  I have a few questions

1- what do you mean by "action height"

2 - I made it so my back cover will come off, can I make this electric (with the thru neck)?

3 - What other parts would I need? (just the piezo or a magnetic pick up?)  I ask this because I have seen pictures of bars that the strings go over and was not sure if the bar and pick up worked together or not.

This one, and the partially finished one I have, are surprises for my son and his girlfriend.  I am sure that they will enjoy them.

I have been looking through cigarboxnation site and there does not seem to be a shortage of kind, patient people willing to share their knowledge with others.  Thank you.
