It has been a big week for me and CBGs. This one is for Uncle John, Oily, Vinylhead, Mike Bingham and all the other outlaws here in the Nation.
I've been experimenting with tunings and have this one tuned ADA, which allows for the nice alternating bass which should work for a bunch of country, folk or bluegrass.

Thanks, tricky getting the 'and' in there but doable!
You got it UJ. The middle string on beats 1 and 3 and the low string on 2 and 4. I had to do this for a while before I added the high string on the "and". I had trouble with the changes at first. After I got the positions down I added the high string on the "and". You could do the whole song with just the alternating part if you wanted.
I'm a frustrated banjo player and this is similar to something I did with that when I couldn't pick fast enough. Maybe a little Elizabeth Cotton style as well.
i also tuned ada, and tryed to play along,
Huh. Back again. I even like the shadow thing going on in the back ground. Like it a lot.
I tuned ADA and tried this song. Hard song! Makes me appreciate what you are doing even more.
Since the root is the middle string with this tuning, I think you are leading each measure and chord change with thumping the middle string. Is that right?
Thanks Roadkill and Sharecropper. Glad people are enjoying it. Thanks Oily for the comment on the singing. Wasn't familiar with Jerry Jeff, but I will be downloading some after watching some youtubes. Always something new here to discover.
Sounds great. Really enjoyed that.
Nice performance ! Thanks for explaining the tuning . Never hurts to repeat information here . I miss a lot of stuff or I'm "not ready for it" the first, second or third time around ! Going to retune to a 515 tuning and play around for a while .
Thanks all. I've been having a blast. Probably spent way too much time on the production, but all in the name of fun.
To expand on the tuning a little - (I'm no music theory expert mind you) This is actually done in the key of D making the second string the root note so I guess it would be V I V (515). I stumbled on it after tuning up from the minor tuning in Waiting Round to Die. I think Keni Lee touched on this in one of his videos that I watched a while back, but it didn't sink in until I started picking the alternating bass. The same thing applies to the minor tuning ADF, which is Dm (root on second string).
What I like about this is that you can start with your guitar tuned "standard" AEA (151) and easily change keys to D by tuning down the second string. You could also tune the high string down to F# to get the triad, but this has a more country "steel guitar" sound. You just have to remember the root is on the second string.
I'm sure this isn't breaking any new ground and if I'm wrong on the particulars please correct me, but I think it's interesting and a nice change of pace from the 151 sound that I've been using since I started.
