Thanks y'all.  Sure is fun. For smilingdog and anybody else, I based this off of the original string bender made by Gene Parsons for Clarence White when they were with the Byrds.  Here's a nice video of Gene describing it:

Took about a week to get it all together and dialed in.  I think you might be right that it works easier in a lighter guitar/spring pick, but I think the length of the lever on the strap end has a lot to do with it too.  I had a shorter bracket on there to start with and it was tough to pull. I wouldn't mind a longer throw than what I have on there, but that may mean a heavier spring.

All in all, I was surprised that nothing seemed to be too critical except for the stop screw.  I'm using a threaded insert and a 1/4-20 bolt and that's not really precise enough for fine tuning. 

Unc, I'm right there with you and if you look at a lot of the benders out there, the back cover is plexiglass.  I'm thinking a thinbucker  for a pickup, cleaning up the insides and a plexi back. Also gotta re-do that felt that I put on there for some reason.

b benders are  great   , and  i  would think  easier to   use   on lighter  guitars  . if  using a  lighter  spring  .
