I've been experimenting with shrinking PETE 1 plastic for use as banjo heads so I decided to do a little banjo using as much recycled stuff as I could. The p...

Have at it Old Fingers! I stole the idea from somewhere. I must tell you that the tambo jangles were a bit annoying and I wanted to hear what the banjo sounded like so I stuffed some foam in them to act as mutes for this vid. In the link I sent you I'm using a wooden salad bowl which are easy to find over here at yard sales and thrift shops. That might work for you too.

Thanks for the link, I was toying with the idea of a tambourine banjo as I've always wanted to learn but I like all the instruments I keep to look beat up as hell and use as much recycled stuff as possible so if you don't mind sir I may be trying this! Thanks again

Thanks Old Fingers. Yeah I heated it with a heat gun after stapling around the edges. I think a hair dryer might work too. There's a vid on my page showing how this was done on another one if your interested.  Oh, here it is.

That little thing packs a hell of a punch! Great playing too. When you say shrinking the plastic do you mean you heated it to shrink it round the frame? Hugely curious about this one!

Yeah Rob, I don't smoke cigars so it's nice to have a raw material that I actually use before using it!

Wow ! For no bigger than that thing is it's loud !! Super banjo and great pickin' (as usual) !!! My 12 oz. beer can canjos sound better after emptying two or three ... ya gotta have something to work with ...

Thanks much for the comments everyone! Yeah, I was surprised at the volume too, but hey it was plastic from a 40 oz beer and I always get loud after polishing off one of them! Let's see - a 40 oz beer and a broken pool cue - you know there's a story and a song in there. yeah Unc, a small cigar box is my next target for this method. Should work.
