I finally got around to making this after being inspired by similar builds by Chuck Cobillas and Hilo Greg on CB Nation. The fret lines are cut and filled wi...

Thanks Eric. Yup, same tuning as standard bass EADG and what I liked with these strings is - same register! I had looked at some so called Bass ukes while researching this build and some of them are an octave higher than regular bass. More like a low strung Tenor guitar. Much easier to carry around than upright or even Fender type basses much as I love 'em both. Are you talking about that old blues, R&B riff at the beginning? It's sort of what I used to play on the old R&B instrumental Night Train. Pretty simple pattern. Open E, octave E on D string, open D, open A ,A#,B triplet and repeat. Follows the same pattern for the IV and V chords starting with open A for the IV and B on the A string for the V. Synchopated doubling up on many of the notes. Whew, easier to play than explain!

Is the tuning the same as a standard bass?  EADG?  I'll have to study that riff unless'n you want to share it.  :)

Phenomenal!  I love it.  I think my daughter and I will have to make one as an alternate to her upright.

CB Fretless U BassThanks Smilingdog. These are the Aquila Thundergut strings made for short scale basses. A couple of other brands are out there but they all run $25 and up so comparing brands can be costly. I went with these since Aquila is what I use on most of my nylon string instruments.

Your bass has such a rich and warm tone to it, rings out very clear on each note. What strings are you using?

Great vocal expressions.

Thanks much Sammy! I think I used to sing it in a higher key but on fretless bass this was the only way I could halfway pull it off.
