Ceramic Body Guitar Demo - CBG - Cigar Box Guitar Inspired

Hello my friends, it's been a long time since I posted. After many attempts at building a full fledged 4 string CBG with a ceramic body, I finally got a body that made it through the kiln firings without warping or cracking. I finished this up a couple months ago but was too busy with the holiday rush on my business to make a video of this guitar until now. I hope you enjoy it. Music starts 45 seconds in, and there's a slide show of pictures I took along the making process. Thanks for watching!

In a word: BEAUTIFUL!

Thank you Derek! I think the denim look gives it an interesting vibe visually. There's kind of a curiosity to it like what is that made out of? I appreciate your kind words on the tone and my playing. That's what I'm really happy about with this one -  the playability & sound. It makes me excited to play it. :)

Thanks Wolfy! Hahah! :)

Looks fantastic and nice warm tone. I like the denim like top. Nice playing too, Janis.

You guys are so awesome! Ya know everybody loves their own baby, so I thought maybe I just felt Little Blue here sounded good because of all the time and work that I put into her. I'm gonna write you guys all here so I don't post a bunch of different comments. I don't know what good forum form is.

Uncle John, thank you so much! I think you encouraged me to take on combining my sculpting with cbg building in the first place. I'm glad ya did! Thank you!

Dani & Grey Bear, Thank you! I really appreciate your nice words. That's an astute question on the weight. It's a lot heavier which is part of why I made it small. Lemme go weigh it... Okay, it 'only' weighs about 6 pounds, but it feels substantial. Kinda feels like a basswood electric guitar. You're are totally right, the weight of the body does help hold the neck up a bit, which is nice. I couldn't resist dropping the Dire Straits in there. ;) I played that part through a Roland Micro Cube. Interestingly this git nails that sound better than any of my humbucker gits! Ya never know, I guess...

Thank you Norbert! I'm a potter, so it was fun to combine 2 things I love.

AGP2, Thank you! I'm pretty blown away by how this turned out. I think the super rigid ceramic body helps the rod piezo pick up the string vibrations for a really nice tone. IDK, but that's my theory. You gotta keep me posted if you do a baking dish build. That could be cool! You'll have to get creative on attaching the neck.

Elio, I use a piezo preamp that I built into a small cigar box to cut the treble back significantly, and that stops the feedback. An EQ peddle would probably work too. The outboard preamp option is easy to build. Shane has a video on it. Several of us around here have been building them even before that. They're great to have.

Hello Janis a really unexpected sound and no whistle! my piezo pierce the eardrums when I'm too close to the amp. Really a surprise.

"WOW", a well put together Vid, love the sound of the Ceramic Build, and the quality of the playing, it's always refreshing to see new ideas and concepts, and now has me leaning towards doing a build using a Ceramic Baking Dish or something similar!

Oops, also, does the ceramic body help with top heavy neck balancing out from some cigar box guitars? I imagine it would do.

Wow! Sounds superb, Janis. Well done on getting the body to survive the furnace. You could say the sound is smoking hot and absolutely on fire! Crazy to think it's a piezo pickup, sounds like a gang of rioting humbuckers when you played Dire Straits. Out of interest, is it much heavier than a "standard" cigar box guitar (whatever a standard cigar box guitar is)? A roaring well done to you. I'm impressed.
