Ps I used to sing this on my old Granpappy's knee, then I discovered it was  better to sing on microphones!  ;)

Hey RTZ. I measured the top of a violin and the cutout is about 4 1/2". The fiddle in this vid is 6" wide and the bow just touches the side on the outer strings. I think 5" might be about as wide as I'll go on future builds to avoid cut outs. You can also do a ramp sort of shape in the bow area which works pretty well on wider boxes. This box is 6" wide and there's good clearance.
