Epiphone and Squier are making some of the reissue Gibson and Fender model guitars from back in the day and they are made very good. Some of the materials used are different and they don't quite sound the same as the originals. For someone that knows the difference like me - it matters, for all the youngsters that don't know - it doesn't matter one bit.
A lot of the differences are subtle and can only be heard in a small room played clean. Add a few effects and that goes out the door for the most part. Us old guys can't unlearn what we know. Hahaha
The difference is how the pickup is made. The minibuckers have 2 steel blade poles with a single magnet underneath and between the poles like a regular double coil pickup. The original Firebird has 2 bar magnets used as blade poles in the coil bobbins and a steel reflector plate across the bottom. This is why the 2 pickups sound different. I agree that the new pickups sound good just like the Snake Oil pickups that Gitty sells and they are hot.
But a vintage style Firebird pickup has a unique tone all it's own and that's what made the Firebird guitar so much desired back in the day. That's the reason other companies started making those style pickups in their guitars.
The magnets were A2 at first, then switched to A5 in the 70's from what I heard. The magnet setup with the vintage output can be heavenly when it comes to tone. That is very noticeable in the neck position. Bridge pickups need a bit more heat. ;) The Seymour Duncans are very good.
Even the 70's minibuckers in the Gibson Deluxe models sound different than todays Gibson minibuckers. It may be the output being too hot or maybe something else. I heard that the magnets in the new models were ceramic, but that might not be true at least for all models. My ears are telling me that somethings not the same and if I hadn't heard the vintage Firebirds before, then everything would be fine. LOL
Believe so to about the hanging on! these Pawn series dont do those sellers any good as long as the price is low its interesting, conserning resale by the Pawn People ! some are treasures full of the stuff, if we must believe what they tell us?
1904 those where the first, in my catalog they go till 1924 , after that they where not made any more!
There is this italyan guy ! believe he done one! he is the guy from the scarymachine!! forgot his name !
There are some that did ,CBG Style that is ,but its mainly a two neck version, reverb say's the are for sale down at your end (U style) and not even that harch as a Terraplane.
About the mini's dont Swamp Witch uses those? for pick-ups ther are so many produsers there must be one that copy,s that! spend some time online and you will be surpriced
About the Jaguar is that not to be about reischueded? And how about Epiphone is it not Gibson? they produse loads of new reissues !
Actually, the modern mini buckers are hotter sounding than the originals Paul, the only real difference is the height? Older ones had a taller cover, but they both have alnico 5 magnets? I’ve installed a Seymour Duncan antiquity version in a reissue for a client, I like the antiquity line, scatter wound by Seymour himself, or they used to be?
I saw something kinda like it along time ago somewhere? Don’t remember who the builder was?
