Thanks Bluesheart. The amazing grain patern comes from the plank which was the center of the tree it was cut from. The tailpin is almost the center of the tree. I think it will be strong too. There is some checking radiating from the center. I used a Menards scrap plank from the bargain bin. It was just long enough for the fiddle so i couldn't trim off much of the ends to get away from the checking. Note the shim under the fingerboard to get a good high bridge.
