Hi Donovan.

Ebony is good. I still haven't painted the heal on this one. One day.

All the best.

John

Cool neck. I like the two-piece look. The wooden knobs compliment it nicely, too.

Cool.  Playing what we made is what it is all about!

Hi Uncle John. Your not being a pain. You are being very helpful but possibly far too complimentary. I will certainly show photos. I will do a before and after. I am now planning the final bridge. It will be a home made adjustable bridge (height and intonation) with two piezos built into the bottom plate and made of ebony and brass.

I'm taking a few days off from the bench (kitchen table) to learn to play this thing. It is my first fully fretted and I am now having so much fun playing that I will put the tools away for a day or three. Who knows. In time I might even be able to play well enough to put up a vid.

Oooh.  That is better than just paint.  I hope you are happy with the result and show a photo.

Sorry to be a pain.  If it wasn't so C L O S E  to being perfect, it would never have bothered me!

Hi Uncle John. Thanks for the suggestion.

I think that is a wonderful idea. I don't normally think along the lines of using paint and it just didn't occur to me as an option, but in this case I think it would be perfect. A little bit worn off the corners (just a little) and it should match the box. I think I might need to put a bit of diluted stain on where the paint will be worn off just to darken the wood a little.

Thanks again for the help.

I understand your point John.  Might have done it the same myself and I have never so closely approached perfection.   You know,  painting the heel a gloss black might look really good.

Thanks Uncle John. You are vey kind. I agree that the heel would have have been better in the same wood. I have more mahogany, but only two more neck blanks from that piece and the other wood looks sufficiently different. I decided that a poor match was worse than no match at all and went for a contrast. Maybe a different wood would have been better. Oh, well. There's always the next one.
