no such thing as unnecessarily strong. you can save it , its just wood. I just ruined one the other day and now I have an excuss to do what ever I want with it now, kind of takes the pressure off.

I suppose, but it would be unnecessarily strong.

Could you make it a 4-string?

Don't go cheap when buying a router.  Seriously.  Plan on spending between $200 and $250 at least.  I have a Ryobi and I love the thing.

Will the rewrites reflect your router-ed process? Because I've been looking for an excuse to buy an inexpensive plunge router or trim router for these builds...

I've been using a router lately with the fret board as a template.  Here's a description targeting folks that don't own a router:

I'm currently in the process of rewriting these so I should have something much more complete with lots more pictures soon.

You are always welcome to offer up advice. Question: If I put the fretboard on before carving, what steps should I take to keep from doing this again? Would carving the back before making the sides flush with the FB be a bad idea?

If I can offer a bit of advice, glue the finger board on first before you start carving the back to the neck.

Wasn't paying attention to what I was doing, mainly. Like I said, I need to get a drawknife, i think, and carve the sides of the carefully, leaving about a 1/4" edge between the neck sides and what gets carved. Or so I've read. Above all else, I need to practice more control with the spokeshave.
