I'm no cook so i can't tell you exactly what it's for, but it is certainly some sort of sauce pan lid. When i found it (garage sale... 10 cents) there was a handle in the center and it was in with a lot of other cooking accessories. I think someone else mentioned that it has something to do with steaming? *shrug*
