Part of the cave. Mandolins are multiplying.

Hi Uncle, i got mine strung today as well. It has come out excellent. Neck is strait and the action low. I had to pull all the electronics out to add a string ground as it has a mag pickup. It sizzled when you touched the strings before adding the ground. Now it's clean and the tone control (which didn't seem to function) is working great. I think i fixed cold solder joints on the back of the volume pot adding my ground wire. I spent all day fooling around with it starting with a maple bridge. I'll post a photo or two when the sun shines again. My next victim just arrived today. An old Airline mandolin that needs fretboard work bigtime. Neck is strait though. I just need to cut a few frets off the body overlayment. I think i'll just add a nice piece of wood to replace the fried fretboard end. I'm liking building again. Winter's reward....

Got it strung up yesterday, Dave.   Nut is too high and I hope to fix it today.   It did not meet my goal for factory built acoustic sound and tone.   But it is pretty decent.   And plugged in, it is going to be excellent.

Your baritone looks great Uncle. I,ve got a Kay mando in the shop. I sawed the fretboard off to reset the neck and sand out a bow. Now it's flat and should be string worthy.by tomorrow. This old K has a nice pickup that works good. Fun when they,re close to playable. Enjoy your stringing.

I can reach the 12th on mine, Dave.  I hope to get it strung up today or tomorrow.   And I hope for decent tone volume.

I was just playing it john. It,s got amazing volume. Only trouble is, theres no 12th fret. Should have gone that extra little bit.

Gary and APG, yes fired the kiln back around xmas. Will fire for the "Empty Bowl" project for our 24th year of doing it. I make a lot of bowls for it each year. When i sit in my chair, i look all around me and see the cave and shop. Out the window in the bat cave shot, is my porch woodshop where the majority of the sawdust is made. I'll build a small shed this summer to hold the totes of pots that stuff my porch workshop. I have about 6 ft. of it still to work in. :^)
