may have ruined brass lowe cone. exposed to ammonia fumes to age it, but now it's cracked in several places. gotta try playing it first before I send off to Texas for another.

thanks everyone for the kind words and advice. I'll do my best to salvage it because I like the look, but if I can't I'll just get another cone and try again.

if u dont have ur neck done yet, just go for 3 strings and i think u should be cool..
when it comes to stringing up take care to gradually apply the tension evenly, tune each string up a little rather than crank each fully in turn and i think u just may make it

Just have to finish the neck (frets, etc.) then string it up and see what happens. Probably be ordering another cone, so get spinnin' Mike!

WOW!
I would string it up and see if it works you can always add a new cone to this guitar if it doesn't
My guess is it will rip I see a few cracks that are in a bad spot.
And yes the cones are thinner than a beer can.
I did not know about the amonia fumes nice look tho!
Hope it works cause it sure looks neat!

Just like you said , "play it first" . It could very well be the "elusive sound" people have been searching for . Myself . I would just continue on and build/play it . You might be surprised when everyone "want's one" !
