I have an old cherry hammer. I cut it when I was building a log cabin back in 1974. I used it to chizzle the logs. I've used it ever since to carve wood. It is a stick with several branches coming out of it. I strike where the knots are. It has checked over the years but still holds true. Cherry is tough.

I haven't tried cherry yet but am looking forward to it. It's fascinating to see it change color over time.

I've used a lot of Cherry. Choke cherry from my yard. A huge tree with 5 trunks fell in a storm and took the corner off our portch. I had lumber made of some of it. Also my local Duluth timber yard has a lot of Cherry. Hard and even grained. Wonderful neck or fingerboard wood.

Yes, it very well could be cherry. I've seen alot of exotics come off discarded pallets.

Not sure, but would you believe it came from a pallet!

Looks like you may have an Alder neck with Maple headstock sides. I like what you've got going.
