A tattoo grip or a bigger diameter turnaround might help with that.

What problems did you have with the turnaround Rob Uker?  Strings breaking?

The turnaround can a problem. I've found that they need to be either hard plastic or metal, and should have at least a diameter of 1/2 inch.

I built a tenor in a Risa style but the tension on the strings where they make the 180 degree turn was a problem.

Have you encountered similar issues when building travel ukes?
