These are the tools I use to make my builds fretted. I use Gitty fret wire. One at a time, fit measured, cut and filed ends. Then inserted.

Ambrose - I hadn't thought of using a separate piece of fret cut wood to hold the fret while filing... I may try your method.

Nice job!.. Interesting.  I insert my fret wire onto an old piece of neck wood (same width as the one I am using on my build), then pre-cut and file it, afterwhich I insert it onto my build fretboard and give it a final subtle dressing. It's probably a bit long-winded but I enjoy doing it this way.

Lonman, I use the taped vice grip pliers to hold the fret wire while I round the ends. Then I insert them into the fret board.

Nice looking fretboard. What do you use the taped pliers for?

Will, that's why I like to use the towel...a quick shake and it is like new.

This is a nice view of the Walnut wood grain fret board, too. Sometimes that gets lost under frets and strings.
