Instead of cutting a 6 string hard tail bridge, I ordered this 4 string already to go off of Ebay. Seller is Bezdez

Now I'm wondering how hard it would be for me to fabricate individual bases for top load saddles...

Thanks for all the info.

cheers

That must be the chrome version of the gold one I got.

I buy parts on Ebay.  Mostly from the sellers, Bezdez and Choppermusic.  You can buy a hardtail 6, or a 4 or even just the saddles.  Most of the saddles however are roller and the cost is about as much as the entire bridge.  I have not found the saddles that capture the string end so you can avoid the through body but have seen the bridges on Ebay.

On three strings I usually make a new base out of brass.  Like this one.

Okay, that works, thanks. Have you cut a 6 string hard tail before? What I'd really like to find is the single unit saddles, like the bass ones you see but in guitar size. Red Dog uses them sometimes.

The strings on this are through body.  I design my instruments to be electric first.  This box is rather thin and has a slide on top.  This allows me to make the through neck solid from back to front of box. I could do the same thing with a box that opens if I add to the width of the neck to allow for the bridge screws and string ferules.

Here is a picture of inside.  It might help you get a handle on the design aspect. Note the bottom brace that is glued to the back.  For this one I also had to glue pieces to make the neck part inside wider so I would have something to screw the bridge into.

Very nice! Do the strings go all the way thru to the back of the box or just thru the lid? If they do go all the way thru the box, the thru-neck would be in the way, yeah? So I can only use this if the box opens up easily, or bolt-on neck? Sorry for all the q's but I've been wanting to use these but not sure how hard it will be to re-string.
