3-String CBG, Blues Pentatonic Scale Fretting

This is a pure Blues Machine! Has only those few frets that comprise the Pentatonic Scale...plus a flatted 6th and 2nd fret. I included the 2nd fret, because I frequently use that fret when playing the Blues.

Easy to learn your way around this fretboard. It's a blast to play!!!!

Hey Uncle John...responding to your question about the Pentatonic fretting...

Dulcimer fretting is typically whole (diatonic) notes only...so frets 0,2,4,5,7,9,(10), 12.... (fret 10...a flatted 7th Blues note...is technically not part of the diatonic scale, but I add it to my Dulcitars to provide more options)  There's a great discussion about this somewhere in Cigar Box Nation material.

The Pentatonic (5 note scale) Blues Scale on this guitar has the following fret pattern 0,(2), 3, 5,(6), 7, 10, 12....   I'm not a scale expert, but I believe adding the 6th fret is what makes it a Blues Pent Scale...another reader may want to chime in this point.  I also added a 2nd fret after playing the guitar for a few days...because a lot of my playing involves that 2nd fret.

Need to give a shout out to Del Pucket for the idea to try Pent Blues fretting...I watched his vid on a harmonics based blues scale guitar he made...thanks Del !  Also tried his suggesting using harmonics to locate fret position...which worked great!

One more note on this guitar...I expanded the depth of the cool...but shallow...Rocky Patel cigar box by inserting an ~3/4 inch (sandwich) panel between the lid and bottom of the box to increase the depth and resonance...really happy with the overall result!

Cheers....JBCrull

It is one that kind of makes me gaze and study.  I like it a lot.  My kind of relic and style.  I don't know about the fretting, though.  Is it different than dulcimer tuning?   I had one that had partial frets (for the big two strings) - well, I forget right now, but it had frets for the first 3 like on a guitar and then was dulcimer fretted.  I gifted it, but thinking back, that had good potential for my playing style.

I like the simplicity and old look.
