I had this idea for fret markers (not original, I'm sure)- cut the grooves, fill with wood filler, sand smooth and then oil...

Words fail to express just how well that idea worked- I was a bit dubious cos I hadn't read of anyone else having done it, but once I rubbed it down- wow! How it looked when oiled was the icing on the cake. Currently working on a mahogany neck that I'll do the same with- gonna be a wrench moving on to fretted necks!
