Yes, the thin D string didn't work. so I replaced it with another thick D in unison. All sounds great now.

Interesting. I like DGB tuning a lot. So easy to play in the key of G and not bad in others. I tried the double string thing once, but it has been so long I forget what I tried. Ah, maybe I remember. I like to pick out melodies on single or paired strings and I think it didn't sound right to me at the time with octave apart strings. I wish I could test ride this one of yours.
