John, Yes its a zero fret and two string trees to keep the strings in position and give then a bit of break angle. I haven't had the courage to try a scarf joint yet!

Michael, Dave and Jim are some fine banjo makers them selves.  Maybe check their photos.  Looks great.  Wish I could see below the headstock better.  Zero fret and some string hold downs?
