John Nickel inspired CBG: disc piezo and 1-pole pickup with separate jacks. 20.1” scale length GDG. Alder neck, Lowe’s yardstick fretboard, Modge Podged fabric on body and headstock, 3D printed holders for T-pin frets. Single pole pickup goes to octave pedal and then to bass amp. It has that fat “John Nickel” sound! I put this build off way too long!!!

Gracias, mi amigo.

I look forward to that video.

You do set a great example of encouraging others which is a good thing since, for a season, we are unable to gather with others like we have in the past. Zoom, although less than ideal, has allowed me to connect with a CBG builders group in Sacramento and some of them join us on Monday nights to play. New friends with shared interests and great interaction.

I do need to make a video on the new JohnNickel style CBG with the extra pickup. I’m not sure people understand the concept. I’m still working on the mix between the pickups. It seems to work well for 1-finger playing since the bass note is always the low G. I’ll see what I can do.

Oh, a PS:  Yup, I have long looked at others'  builds for ideas, inspiration and just plain fun.  But now I am trying to look and comment to support other folks   It's harder during this epidemic to have positive face to face interaction with people.  But internet interaction can be positive too.

Holey buckets, Doug.  I did take a view that link and that is very cool.  I don't quite understand it all.  I hope you will educate us on it.

Isn’t that the reason we scan the photos of what everyone else is doing? For inspiration and another opportunity to build an instrument we don’t need! Although this build, with an extra single pole pickup, has been on my to build list after I saw this John Nickel video several years ago (my inspiration for taking a 3-stringer seriously): https://youtu.be/zrV6P_z_IqQ I even bought the octave pedal that has been patiently waiting for some action.

Thanks for the tips on Modge Podge. I do have Modge Podge, but I used some kind of water based polyurethane in this case. I poured it out of an old can purchased years ago into a squeeze bottle to simplify using it. I think it’s waterproof, but I don’t plan on playing outside in the rain anytime soon to find out! I like the spray acrylic idea!!!

I like using Mod Podge. It works great for fabrics and paper laminating. But beware of it not being water proof. It gets sticky and cloudy when wet. I put rub on varnish over it or spray acrylic to fix this issue. Yours looks great Doug.
