Cut and finished a new lid.  This one is 1/4 Luan plywood, so shouldn't have the strength issue.  The finish doesn't quite have the same color as the rest of the box, but it's close (Minwax Sedona Red stain).  I threw some old strings on it and it has a nice crisp tone, much louder than I anticipated, then took it back apart to shoot some lacquer on it.

I'll string it up for good tomorrow.
