AGP #315 - “Tillo”

Scale : 675mm / 26 ⅝inches
Tuning : A / D / a / a /
Strings .022BW/.015PS/.011PS/.011PS/
Picked up this little $20 second hand store purchase on one of my regular trips West, ‘’Tillo’’ the guy who owned the store had no idea of what sort of instrument it was!, obviously it had no Tuning Pegs or Strings and the Tail of the strings appeared to be originally held on by Tacks, looks like it was built by a Wood Working enthusiast, its reasonably well made albeit from cheapish materials, the Block Ends are solid Pine, the Box is 4mm Hardwood 3Ply and the Neck a Hardwood of some sort, possibly Tassie Oak, but looks more like some of the hardwood pallet timbers I’ve used in the past, stripped and sanded off some poorly painted Floral Art and what looked like a very thin coat of a clear plastic finish of some sort, added a few of my Build Methods, and gave it one coat of a 50/50 Linseed Oil and Turps mixture, didn’t have exactly the String Gauges I wanted to use but came up with something close enough, reasonably loud, but not as loud as my first Dulcimer attempt from all those years ago! AGP #62 – ‘’Brownie’’ :-D

"Thanks Dave", use a lot of different types of Oils, Lacquers, Varnishes Etc., on my builds, the 50/50 Turps Linseed mix is one of my favourites, particularly on some of our Aussie Hardwoods :-)

Looks like a beauty AGP. I used to use your finish mix for oil painting back in art school days. A nice oil finish. Smells good too.
