yeah just adding a bit of brass to the nut will greatly improve the sound and sustain

Cool idea! I have some brass poles two are 2mm and one is quite large around 10mm. Would that work if I made the proper groove into the nut?

Here`s an "old school " trick for adding sustain to your build. Epoxy a small brass bar to your nut...

Thanks Randy, I took notice to that when I started grinding. I'm working on a new nut and saddle from bone, I'm more or less using these as a "dummy" set for the time being. I tried filling the pores with antler dust and superglue, which worked well until I banged it up to see if it would hold and it shattered out. I have a few burls I'm going to attempt a bridge and saddle inspired by you! Couldn't of been a better person to convince me to switch to bone. Thanks again for looking and your advice.

May I make a suggestion, while it`s a cool nut I would go with bone next time. Deer antler is pores and over time from the stress of the strings they will dig down into the slot which will throw off the tuning. Bone is a lot denser!

Oh yeah.   Highly appropriate and cool.
