I'm happy to share info Uncle John.

This site has given me heaps of ideas, and while I try not to "copy", it's very hard not to sometimes because the builds are just so good!

Turkeychickens VW hubcap is a perfect example....I find it impossible to improve on, it's so well done, and creating an alternative design using a VW hubcap that is as good, I think would be extremely difficult.

The horseshoe nails were very time consuming: Holes drilled through corrugated iron are 4mm, and had to be drilled at a depth where they didn't split the timber sides of the box, but still allowed some "meat" for them to grip & hold down the lid.

Then the holes needed to be squared through the metal top. this was done with a dremel with a small rotary bit, to weaken the sides of the hole in 2 directions only. When the nails were driven into the lid, the weakened sides of the 4mm hole collapsed to form a square hole. Labour intensive!

Great work! I really like all the details you put into this.

Thanks for kind comments. The nails are horseshoe nails that have been heat treated. The volume & tone knobs are James Boag Brewery caps.....our local beer maker. I tried to flatten the corrugations, but that didn't work very well without a roller....so I just left them. The 4 pole pickup is a converted 6 pole single coil pickup....just knock out the poles & insert screws. I got the idea from Randy Bretz's Stealth build.
