Hey everyone...I,m building a frying pan type 3 string. I want to add a pickup mounted trough the top. what type of pickup would be best? also, I'm concerned about the pickup reading the metal pan [it,s kinda thick.] I'm wondering if i should open a bigger hole in the top and then surrounding the pickup with some thin wood to distance it from the metal. Another wonder I have is when ghosting a pickup I have seen somewhere someone put small [1/8"x 1/16"?] magnets between the surface and the strings to extend the magnetic field. Anyone know about this? Also, would I be looking for standard refrigerater magnets or would I need something advertised as "super strong?" Thanks for any direction. Peace...Terry

Terry, you can make a pickup mounting ring or buy a pickup that comes with a plastic mounting ring? FYI Refrigerator magnets are not musical, but neodymium magnets are? If you’re going to add a magnet to a pickup, then it should match the pickup’s magnet? I have never heard of someone ghosting through that thick of metal, seems like it would interfere with magnetism? Here’s the easiest solution to your dilemma:
