I have two of the 'push thru against the spinning drum' sanders. They work wonderful, I use them all the time. I've never had a 'mishap' with the wood. Reasonable work habits should easily prevent this. Fore very thin or odd shaped pieces I have a 'hard-board' tray the piece lies on with a 'fence' behind the piece and the whole tray with workpiece is fed thru the sander.

Cool Greg. I like the idea. Just when I seen the pic i was imagining flying wood stock flying throught the garage door

Tracy...I've been away and was catching up here and saw your comment about my drum sander. To start with I built it with finish sanding in mind so the passes I take with it are very light. I underpowered it on purpose and if a pass is to heavy of a cut it will stall the drum. It's like a 1/3 hp from a small furnace blower. Like Matt says..push into the rotation and I have a different thickness push blocks to keep the ends of my fingers from losing any skin. Most stock going through this thing is really thin. 25 to 30 thousands thick for headstock veneer and wood inlays. Sometimes thinner. The machine is dead on parrallel and for about 25 bucks in parts and material I couldn't be more pleased.

You make a VERY thin pass and you push the work thru the sander with the sander pushing back at you .... at least thats what I've been told.

disclaimer - You a he .. if doing this like I said make you a she ... it's yer own fault.

I dont know if this helps anyone however I have found that I never have enough clamps. but have an ample supply of scrap wood. I found this plan to make Cam clamps. Ill attempt to make myself some this weekend.

This is directed to Greg Fulks or anyone elso who has an answer. How to you prevent wood stock from being a projectile. This is a very intersting tool but I dont see how you keep the wood from flying out the other end
