Nice builds! I've for several builds underway and amwaiting for a new shipment of fretwireto complete them. Then a couple more resos!

here is three of my latest resonator builds---

the jello pan build is an open style resonator, but the vengeance and the gold label ones are closed style internal resonator builds. i like the sound of the gold label build the best of the three.there are short sound test videos of all three on the nation,s video page.

I like the sound right now, though the mass of the pot lid is eating away at the volume. I was wondering if closing off that big hole would improve the resonance properties of the box.

Thanks for the info.

yeah i would go along with Brian and say it's decrative and a cone protector , but the 6" uke cover plates have four string mounting holes , i never used them on my build because theres much more tension on a guitar string than a ukelele string

BT i would say its mostly decorative but i,m sure it does affect the instrument sonically, but not very much.i believe the coverplate was designed mostly to protect the aluminum cone in the earliest versions of the resonator guitars, built by national, and dobro.

Hey all! Just finished my first "real" reso build (pot-lid, 4-string, bone doo-dads) and am wondering about the necessity of a hole cover--is it decorative or does it affect the instrument sonically?

Any thoughts?

Ahh, so you cut part of the top off.
Thanks again JuJu

Hi Nick i never made a paint can reso but this is apicture that Nile added , he's also used part of the paint can aswell as the lid , be sure to make holes in the paint can , if you use this method , this will allow sound to transfer from the paint can into the Cigar Box then the box should amplify the sound

hello

If i was building a resonator with a paint can lid being the thing you can see, would i need to put anything underneath it the make the volume louder or do i just fix the lid onto the face of the CBG (over a soundhole)?
