CBG can have diatonic (dulcimer) or chromatic (eg: guitars) fretting and can be tuned to standard, open, major, minor or anything else. Scales can vary as much as any chordophone from soprano to bass. What they all have in common is the cigar box body, beyond that they can represent a variety of instruments from ukuleles, guitars, strumsticks, mandolins, dulcimers, etc.
I have a couple of questions. What is the difference between a mountain dulcimer and a 3 string CBG other than the diatonic fret board scale and tunings. What is the scale for a 3 string CBG dulcimer in the minor scale, which I love the sound of. I bought a used mountain dulcimer and can't get used to playing sitting on my lap. I suppose the strumming is my problem and have always used finger picking and playing different instruments in the guitar type fashion.
Crazy in a good way Randy.
Yeah that washboard build is very unique and sounds great too. I just scored another washboard off ebay. Smaller but the metal part is copper, i`m thinking of a lap style dulci and using it for the top of the box. I have one of those large " fuzzy " edge boxes that should work great for that build.
The washboard harp is VERY cool! No wonder you couldn't tell me what that neck was for. I've never seen anything quite like that. Got me a real nice cherry Mountain Dulcimer & am working on a couple of cool strum sticks. Will post when finished.
