the sqeel (feedback) is more an issue of how you installed the piezo that anything else... are you removing the piezo from it's plastic housing? If so, how are you installing it... CA directly to the top? Are you using any cushioning material? The point of 2 piezo's in series is that you can then use a tone pot and get some effect... mostly pointless to try to do "tone" with a single.... the other benefit of 2 series is that it create a higher resistance that your amp can handle a little better. Also, with two piezo's you can "bracket" your bridge and get better balance between treble/bass....

hey Joker that diagram for wiring the piezo's is helpfull, but does using two piezo's increase the volume and tone or does it mostly help if you are using them with volume and tone pots? I have been using the cheap little piezo from radio shack and have encountered a squeel if I don't turn my amp way down, could two piezo's fix this or do I need a better quality piezo? Also I am curious as to how to wire a humbucker, single coil and piezo all into a single cbg with each style of pick-up hooked up to a selector switch with the pots also. I would like to explore that idea without taking to much acoustic value away from the cbg. That would be a lot of parts and wiring crammed into a little box!

Yep,

You do have a lot of questions.... so, let's start off right by saying that there is no single "right way" to build. Everybody builds out of experience that is informed by the advice they get and the models that they have. Having said that let's sort out your questions....

String terminations? On a neck thru, holes in the tail will do, or line them with pop rivet grommets, or use hinges for tail pieces, or bend forks, or drill and use tradition string pegs, or... or... or...

Tuners? Yes, you can used eye bolts, thumb screws, recycled violin or cello pegs, or any number of relic and vintage guitar, dulcimer, mandolin and ukulele tuners.

Gap between top and neck? Most would tell you it's a good idea that frees up the top to vibrate....but I know one very successful builder that skips this step and probably sells more CBGs that the entire membership of the "Nation" combined (he is legended to sell 10-20 per week in flea markets all over the south).

Here's the skinny.... you only learn by building. Ask questions... of course... but build and you will learn. Also let me recommeded another great place to ask your questions.... the CigarBoxGuitarBuilders yahoo group (http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/CIGARBOXGUITARBUILDERS/)
You will find a lot of folk eager to get you off to a good start. There are a lot of us that have dual membership....

good luck,

I'm a beginer and have SOOOOOO MANY questions to ask anyone that will help me and, thanks to everyone for any help that I can be given. One question is how is the best way to attach the strings to the tailend of the guitar? Can eye bolts or any other kind of bolt be used as tuner pegs? I know I can whittle tuner pegs but the idea of bolt tuner pegs sounds neat and the picture in my mind of bolts as tuner pegs looks great too. LOL! Another question I have is, do you need to have a gap between the box top and the neck?

Nile,

pay attention that there are two piezos in the drawing. most of the knowledgable guys believe that tone control on a single piezo is a waste...

good luck...

Hey guys. So I've made some instruments before including a tenor banjo and diddley bows from cans and cigar boxes, and right now i'm working on a 3 string CBG (roughly following the instructions on cigarboxguitars.com). What should the length from the nut to the bridge be?
Thanks
