This group is for discussing the basics of CBG building for newer builders - where to start, what to do, common pitfalls, tips and techniques.
Keep in mind that new builders can find other great informative articles on CBG building, as well as most of the parts you'll need, over at C. B. Gitty Crafter Supply!

PaPaS,
Over on the Beginners Club, I described my process with a couple pics... follow the link, I think it is fairly clear....

Not very technical or difficult.... a flat table, some sandpaper and a little elbow grease and you can have almost perfectly flat fretboards, which is the foundation for perfect fret installation.

PapaS,
Take a piece of hardwood and a hammer and firmly give it a rap to see if it just isn't seated properly. You can over get a fret that is riding high to settle down enough with this technique. Be prepared to string, loosen, rap and re-string several times.
Raising the bridge might work, but will affect the playability of the CBG in the upper octave.
The other possibility, especially if you're using jumbo frets is some spot filing... (this is my least favorite tactic, but it cam work)...
Fret issues is why I now always, always "deck" my fretboard on the completed neck before installing frets. Since I start this, I have only the rarest problems with frets being uneven/level...
the best,
Wichita Sam
I'd like to make a suggestion about the use of the site.
If instead of starting a new subject by posting your questions here in the Comment box, click on the Add a Discussion button just above.
There are several benefits to doing this.
One is that the discussion is more likely to stay on topic. Once there are suitable answers the thread can roll down the que, replaced by new discussions.
Secondly, if you use a good descriptive title in the subject line, it creates a more useable and searcheable data base where the subject and answer can more easily be found later.
The third benifit is that you can choose to follow individual threads or not, so if the subject is something you are interested in or can provide some useful input on you can, or if you choose to you can ignore the topic entirely.
Just a thought.
Sean - yes, a m,agnetic pickup will work thru wood but just be carefull not to have it too far away from the strings as the output drops off depending on the distance.
My solution - I dunno if it is unique, but I figured it out for myself - is to mount the pickup onto the 'thru' portion of the thru-nack and have it poking thru a hole in the top just a fraction bigger than the pickup.
@ Bill : I tried in the past a clear coat spray you can get in art stores. This one is 100% specialized for paitnings, and drawings on Paper, but can be easily applied to wood (no problem) ...sorry I do not remember the name or brand, but if you ask them (in the store) Im pretty sure they can guide you.
Another option, this is homemade ... use White Glue (the one used for wood, & paper) place it in a small container (do not need much), add water (a few drops), mix and check for viscosity, too tick ..add little mkore water, too thin (transparent) add glue. The goal is to get a white (milk-like) non-sticking liquid, which when applied to any surface with a brush, will not remove paint or anything on the surface, and after drying will leave a protection clear coat. I recomend for first time users to do a test before in a surface they can mess with before applying to the main goal.
