Sorry if I missed this answer in some other thread before, but can someone please tell me the most common size rivet to use at the tail piece of a CBG? I have seen some YouTube videos where the builder showed that he used a rivet at the top and back of the wooden tail piece to insert the strings and to keep them from wearing out the wood there, but they never said what size pop rivet was best to use. Thanks.

I just build my first Diddley bow from a Kristoff box. The box was small so I figured it would make a better Diddley bow. So far I am pleased with the progress. I haven't cut a sound hole for it yet. The one thin I am dissatisfied with is the broom wire for the string. I can't seem to get enough tension on the string to get a good sound. It sounds like a bass now which is not really the sound I want. What would you suggest for string? Any other pointers will help too. I will post pictures.

Mad,

That sounds simple, easy and fairly obvious.  Why didn't I think of it?  Thanks

Gary, I typically use white glue or wood glue with the sawdust. It dries quick and matches well when sanded down. Don't use too much glue, and overfill your hole a bit to allow for some shrink.

I occasionally need to fill a bit of wood from a screw up, like drill bit blow out or a hole drilled in the wrong place.

I don't have a good method yet.  Sometimes I use dust from sanding identical wood and mix it with a little Linseed oil.  The results are not great and it takes forever for the oil to dry.  Regular wood filler products end up having a different color than the surrouning wood, so the spot shows up.

Any suggestions?  I have heard of using super glue with some sawdust, but haven't tried that yet.

I also bought his book, FABULOUS, cant go wrong with it! And yes, youtube videos are also very helpful, as I like to learn by sight!

Howdy Randy, and welcome amigo!

I would suggest that you consider doing what dozens of folks on here have done and that is to take a peek at Mordacai's web site www.GittyMan.com

At $14....you will save yourself a lot of time and anguish.

Yes, there are many YouTube videos that will answer your questions....but Mord has everyting all in one place for you.

Just saying....

Hi! I'm new to this group. I just recently bought a black Cohiba box that I want to turn into a guitar of course. I'd like to do a 3 string preferably. I'm not sure how to build the neck into the box, proper support, etc. can you recommend a good tutorial that spells it out. I want a through type of neck as I think that design looks more authentic for cigar boxes. -Thanks
