Well, I think I'm done with my first build, for now at least.

Thanks for the advice Alan :) Adding a shim under the tuners was anopther idea I had as you suggested, but having added the fingerboard I'm actually pleased with the results. But I'll remember the veneer for the next build if needed.

Dan, while fingerboards are good, the next time your strings clear the nut, you can try either lowering the strings with a string tree or lower the tuners by slapping a piece of veneer on the back of the peg head.

John, for a resonator all you need is some cone or cylinder. The thinner the better (unless you go so thin it collapses). A bisquet sits on top of the cone with the saddle on top of that. StewMac used to sell kits called "The Resomaster." The kits are no longer available, alas, but the instructions LIVE ON! And FREE! Look it over and see if it gives you any ideas... http://www.stewmac.com/freeinfo/i-5290/i-5290.pdf

Oh, And by the way. Logan mentioned planning his second build, well I haven't finished my first and I'm already planning my next project using a cookie tin. HAHA!

Well, the new fingerboard is clamped down and glued. Initial results look good so far. Another thought, I'd just thought I'd mention that I'm using a box from Acid brand cigars. The box only measures 7.5" x 7.5" square and is 3.5" deep. Smaller and fatter then most boxes I seen here but I'm useing what I got. This is the brand my brother smokes. It may be small but initial sound test were good all the same.

Dan - I had the same problem on my first build. I ended up building little "fret risers" to get the buggers up to where the strings were.

Raised Fret Picture

Not sure I'd do it that way again, but it was a fun experiment to try. :)

Dan, I think most of us had to adjust a few things on the 1st build. It'll all be worth it though! I'm still planning my second one.

Its back to the drawing board for my first build. I had some problems with the tuning gears and the strings sat way too high (they cleared the nut). I've decided to add a finger board to increase the height of the nut and bring the strings closer to the finger board. And here I thought I was almost finished.
