Hey everyone, I wanted to let you know that I have started up a series of daily "CBG Quick-Tips" over at www.cigarboxguitarparts.com covering some of the more frequently asked questions and common topics related to building and playing CBGs.

Check them out and let me know what you think, also let me know if you have any ideas for new topics!

Hey Fitzhugh, nice drawing. I am sorrry I am so much trouble. I understand it, now. Ok I understand bout the electronics, too. In that case, I won't worry bout permantely closing the lid. I know it will work what you have drawn to keep the inner neck from bowing, but I think the neck will still bow. My second build was beefed up on the inside, and the neck bowed, so I had to screw ugly braces on the outside to tie the box to the neck. It solved the problem. Unless the heel is tied to something, the neck is going to bow. I am thinking bout extending the heel with dowel and glue to inside the box. I will try to beef up the inner neck first, to see if the neck is going to bend. Thank you so much for your help, and time. I really appreciate it.

Added sketch on my photos page for Dianne...

Oh, and by not active he meant you don't have any amplifying electronics in there that would require a battery, and hence access to change the battery. I like to keep the boxes so I can open them as well but remember that the wiring really won't come under much strain, it just sits there. If your jack is really well mounted and decent quality and your soldering OK I doubt you'd have problems. Also, I noticed a big big difference in volume and tone when I sealed a box that closed tightly. Seemed to let the back resonate much better (I still leave the others unglued so far)

if not too late I'll make a sketch of my suggestion - back in a bit.

Thank all of yall for your help. I will try to reinforce the thin neck inside the box. Thank you, Ben, Fitzhugh,Turkish, and Eric for your advice. I really appreciate it.

Ben, I am using .042,.032, and .024 guage medium strings tuned GDG.
I think yall are right about the neck inside the box is too thin, and I need to reinforce it. Before it bowed, when I plugged it into the amp, it really sounded good.

Fitzhugh, can you make me a sketch, I am sorry, I don't understand what you are talking about with the I beam. Do you mean gluing a strip of wood on each end of thin neck inside the box? Or do you mean gluing a strip of wood vertical, the same way the neck is going, to the thin neck inside the box? It looks like gluing two pieces of wood across the thin neck inside the box would strengthen it up----gluing it on the neck on the side the box opens. Yall are right, I don't have much room in the box. Thanks.

Turkish, what do you mean, my electronics are not active? It is when I plug it into an amp. I need access inside the box to replace the piezo or jack if it quit working. That is the problem of gluing the heel to the box, I won't have access.

I commented on one of the photos but yes it looks like the neck is too thin where it goes to the box. Transferring some of the tension to the box itself couldn't hurt, but really you need to beef up the in-box neck portion. The lighter gauge strings are definitely a good idea too.
