Doug, that box is very cool! Are you going to keep the rope handle? You could swing it around when done fun way to carry.

 

So my question, which might be rudimentary but I was over thinking and thought of this. When measuring for frets one makes the mark for where to cut the pocket for the fret to fit into. However the fret itself when looked at from the side is kinda T shaped so will that hurt the tone with the lip over the marked spot? Or is that taken into consideration with the measurement?

Doug,

I work out of a craft center down at the Student Union of the local University. Also check community colleges, senior centers, etc.

 

There's a bandsaw out there somewhere jus' DYING to meetcha (to borrow a line from Mick Jagger).

Thank you Wichita Sam. Good Advice. This one actually has a fairly good top. If I go with the double neck I will cross brace the top. I have been looking over CB's site and Jay's site to see what I can get for the build. I have no tools and live in an apartment so no place to do any wood working.

Thanks Witchita Sam and Der Groovemeister for the string suggestions. At the moment I have gone with electric 11s using 6-5-4. This could change but sounds OK so far.

Doug,

 

Suggestions?  Wine Boxes have notoriously flimsy tops... learn bracing techniques to apply.  Even then, You'll probably want to depend on some kind of pickup.   Other than that, the fates favor the bold.  Get a vision and go for it... you'll figger out how to solve each problem as it comes up.

Nice box!  One that size should make a killer bass if you don't go for the double neck.

There are dozens of 'how to' videos on Youtube on building cbg's. I would say: keep it simple!

Well I have found a box. Not a cigar box but a wine box. It is a large box measuring 13 1/2" X 13 3/4" X 3 1/2". I am thinking of a double neck. I have been talking with jay at tinyguitars about his pre made necks because I have no tools to be able to build one myself at this time. Any suggestions would be helpful.
