I stole a couple of his ideas for the "octave mandolin" adding extra strings to a regular nylon string guitar ...,, sounds great!.

I beleive that his ideas are very good, and mya help a lot of people trying to build something different. Or at least to get fresh ideas to solve problems.

Dennis is nuts, And I respect that.

I've been tempted to build some of his designs, like the tank drum.

Thanks for the comment ... I agree, the reason Idecided to build a CBG in the first place is because "there are no rules". I mention that maybe is too long for me for the next reasons : 1) I still want to use Guitar strings (2nd to 5th) but not sure about the resulting sound vs. string gauge. 2) Because comparing neck leght Vs. Box size, is too unblanced (neck is heavier than the body). But I agree with you; I will test first sound and note scales to see if they fit what I'm looking for ..... otherwise will cut the neck a few inches short.

It all depends on what you're building.

30" is just right for a Fender short scale bass. The only rule around here is "there are no rules." If a 30" neck is too long for you, you could still move the nut and bridge closer, couldn't you? (There's one reason for a floating bridge.) Don't even THINK about frets until you have made a final decision about scale length.

Hi Guys!, I Just joined this group, because I am in the last stage to finish my first CBG. For the Box I got a Mexican TE AMO cigars brand; for the Neck/body I got me an unsued and extremely large Wood Spoon; and some old parts from previous projects inclusing the tunning machines from a mandolin (4 strings project) and some wood for the Bridge. My problem here is probably the neck is way too Long (around 30'' scale) ... I will not use frets (easier to modify later), so I will try first how it sounds, and if I do not like it ... will short the neck .... any opinion?

Hey guys..this is a short mp3 of my CBG.  Actually it's a multi-track recording...you'll hear the CBG in the back ground and my Strat on lead.  I'm also playing the percussion track by using the CBG body as a drum.  As I said, it's only a few seconds, but I think you'll get a good idea of how the CBG sounds...a real guitar!
