Saw your post Luna,

Thank you ^.^
It took 45 minutes to shape the neck w/60 grit belt sander paper,  and another 25-30 cleaning it up with higher grits(from 100-330).

remeber you will still need to fine sand so allow for it, also you can take the same paper and glue it to different size dowells or blocks add room for a handle and you have sanding files that clean up easy with a soft bristle wire brush.

ok dude one of the fastest ways I have found to round the back of the neck is to use the shoe shine method.  Go to home depot or wherever aqnd get a belt sander belt, I usually use a 60 or 80 grit.  Cut it in half where the factory splice is at and you have one long strip go for a 2 or even 3 inch wide belt. Be sure to mark some layout lines so you know where you are at and literally use the sanding belt like a shoe shine rag. It will round off the corners in a hurry so much so you will really need to keep your eye on it's progress or you will go too far.  But it works fast, keep your eye on your lines, and a wider belt will be less prone to ripples. The belts are tough you will be able to use it again and again

I agree with Jim Burt, respect the tools and potential dangers, even more so with power tools. For the most part, hand tools can cut and cause lots of problems while power tools can maim and take body parts if not used carefully and correctly.

I use Iwasaki chemically sharpened rasps for necks and solid guitar bodies.

A few things...You need to keep in mind when useing tools that cut...It cut...So be careful,,,,Make sure the blade is sharp..These tools are handtool....Keep your fingers out of the blade...In useing a spoke shave, plane or drawknife I would practice 1st until you get the feel of it....Oh yeah!..1 more thing have fun :)

There are a lot of ways to carve a neck...If I doing 1 on 1..I like the 4 in 1 file and sandpaper....as a woodworker....I feel each neck have a life of their own....In time you will learn what make a 1st class neck....

A spoke shave, plane, drawknife or any straight blade (some shaves are curved for an outside curve) tool will work for hand tools, while you'll probably want to rasp and/or sandpaper to smooth it. A router, if you have one and a large round over bit works for power tools, while a power sander will do the job as well. If you want a spoke shave and your local big box store or hardware doesn't have one, try Lee Valley Tools, Rockler, Woodcraft or Amazon online. IMHO a high quality spoke shave is well worth the money, with a Stanley as a minimum in quality, and will do most of the work involved.
