Comment by Clifford Eise on February 18, 2014 at 2:28pm: I put classical guitar nylon strings on my granddaughter's what I call banjo/uke and hook it up to a microcube amp and it sounds fantastic. Reason for nylon is the metal strings would hurt their little fingers.

It seems to me that it might be important for the top of the tin box to be free to vibrate in order to get the best sound projection. Is it good practice to keep a small space between the neck and the front surface of the tin?

I always leave a gap (1/8") when I build with a box - so the lid doesn't make contact along the length inside the box. Thanks again! C.W.

Stringybark: Thanks. Sometimes I use door moulding if I miscut around the sides and bottom of neck. You can see a piece of that showing.Yes, the screw is for the strap.
