Neck length
Hello all. First time builder here. I want to build a tenor CBU. Does it matter at which fret the neck joins the body? My cigar box is 9"x7". If I join at the 14th fret, accounting for a 17" length from nut to saddle, my bridge will be right at the edge of the box. Can I make the neck a couple of frets longer?

If you're designing the neck at a 17" scale, the 14th fret at the body/box is 9.427" from the nut. With a 9" long box, the bridge will be about 1.427" from the tail end of the box, which leaves enough space for adjusting for intonation.
Alternately, to get the bridge a little more away from the tail end of the box, try making the fret board with the 15th or 16th fret at the body/box.

I'd suggest to figure out where you want the bridge to be and make the neck accordingly. If you use a floating bridge it is all a lot easier as you can move it a little bit to adjust the intonation.
