One - Two - Three - Four

Here's where we can work together to record some music. Anyone can participate, either adding a track or starting a new project. As always, there's no rules, but maybe to make it simple there should be some guidelines.

Obviously each project should be in a format that makes it easy for others to join in. Or not. Audacity is a Free, full featured music recording application available for Mac, PC and Linux which many members here use and can assist others with.

Some veterans may use more serious software that attracts more serious contributions. ProTools with a serious studio setup?

Let's make this a fun way for us to work together many miles apart.

All suggestions concerning how to make this easy and fun are welcome, and everyone is invited to join in. HAAAAA, if your track doesn't fit the song, it can always be deleted...

Well Nation, let's make some music together!

Ted

e-mail Notifications... Is there anyway to add the comments to the e-mail.... I just don't have the time to click CBN Studio to read every e-mail notification... This would be a great help and keep us informed...

Hmm, was that a technical question or a policy question?

On the technical front: if the track is a "bare" WAV / MP3 file, anybody can import it into Audacity and then mix with other tracks. If the project is managed by uploading the Audacity project itself, then anybody can download the project, open it in Audacity, and add tracks of whatever kind they like.

On the policy front: assuming the project is Creative-Commns-licensed, then contributors are free to do whatever mixing they like, and can contribute tracks which the project owner can incorporate in the "official" mixdown for the project. I have definitely seen cases on Kompoz where two contributors submitted "compteing" tracks, and the project owner selected only one of them for the final mix.

Thanks Tres for the info.

Maybe I should have re-worded that last part.... I meant that if the CBG track was already laid down can you add other non-cigar box instrumentation over it.

it would be easy to make a page here with a player, or a myspace musician's page maybe.

The Kompoz guys solve this by making people who start projects pick a "license" governing the project: see the Open Music Agreement section on their terms page.

Most projects use one of the available "Creative Commons" licenses.

The "project owner" gets to publish a "final mix" for the project, potentially selecting from among tracks submitted by multiple contributors, Other participants are free under the CC licenses to create their own mixes.

I don't know how page-making works in Ning. If such a page could have its own jukebox, that would be awesome.

Like other content here, more or less. People who aren't interested in a non-CBG-related project would just not contribute.

Great idea Ted, i'm looking forward to some great collaborations. I do have a few questions. When is the song completed? Does the original poster have the right to stop the process and call it a complete track? Maybe a page should be created just for the "finished" products. Does the tracks have to be cigarbox related?

Great idea! This should prove fun. Thanks for suggesting we use Audacity. As a Linux user, it's nice to not be excluded. Looking forward to the first run.
