I use 500k audio pots for both mag and piezo. I don't use a tone control with a piezo.

Jabes, thanks for the tip and David L. thanks for that link. I think i'll try Jabes simple method and see how it goes. I'm wiring a mountain dulcimer for a band mate and have a Ted Crocker wood covered piezo. Don't know where to get 10k pots. Never seen one on ebay, at least i'm thinking i've not seen one. .... any suggestions?

David L. i used a 10k pot for the volume control no tone control was fitted , it just seemed a less harsh tone (to me) and this was with a piezo disc. give it a go see what you think. i can't even remember which guitar it was,i've been using mag pups since...the link you post looks like the answer if you want a tone pot..

I use 500k or 250k depending on what I have in the parts box, I have not really noticed much difference (recently I have seen others comment lower values even down to 10k help with the harshness from discs - I plan to give this a try on my next build).

1. Generally passive tone controls don't work on piezos. 2. That being said, somewhere on this site, and I am on an iPad and cannot find it right now, someone did achieve some success. If I remember correctly he used 1 meg pots, a very small capacitor, .01 ?, and a resistor in series with the piezo disk. I am sure someone here has that post bookmarked.

What works best for peizos? 500? or 250?. What capacitor? a .01, .02 or .047?

Yes you can. 500k are typically used for humbuckers and 250 for single coil. A capacitor is used for tone bleed. Value for single coil .02uF & .047uF for hbucker

Have a question...I have two pots...both are A500K which I understand means a audio taper.....I do not have the B type pot (linear taper)....I have been told that both A and B can be used for either volume or tone......does that mean I can hook up two A's in a vol/tone type of setup and the second A will act as a tone type dial or do I have to have a A and a B to have volume and tone correctly.  :Thanks for any help

Also, that same link has a preamp schematic in it. It is Mottola's schematic for that type of piezo. I built almost identical, eliminating the gain section of the circuit for a disk piezo preamp. It is the best one I have had so far. The transistor used in it is for space craft applications, so it is pretty durable.
