JonBouye,
I've done a little busking. I have a rig just for that... 2 channel that will handle a mic and the CBG, 25watts and a 10 inch speaker. It can be run off a cord, but has a closed cell battery that will drive the amp for 3 hours when fully charged.
I'm eager to learn more about amp design. Ultimately, I would like to be building small tube amps with a sweet tone. It will be a long road, but I've taken the first step.

Suprrnat,
I thought about keeping the speaker out of the megaphone, but it was only 3" across and I wanted volume and some tone quality. I love recycling stuff. I had pickup up a non-functioning practice amp that was pretty fried, but the speaker looked good, so....
The electronics was on a board that had a ON/OFF/volume wheel and a three battery holder. There was a set of wires feeding the mic element and a set of wires to the speaker, so converting it was a snap. On three batteries, it sounded good, but pretty quiet. I went to a supply house and got a four battery holder and the volume went up 3o-50%. Still won't blow the doors off but plenty good for practice and solo work in a small/quiet environment.
For all the CBGs I've built (now 275 and counting), this is my first attempt at any kind of amp. I have a SDA board kit that is waiting next. I really liked the way it matched up with the CBG in the vid.
Thanks for the kind words,

Wichita Sam
Sam, you are quite right about the portability factor with a mini amp, but still to be able to get more power withoout impeding that neveer hurts...and came be handy for a busker on a busy sidewalk, etc.
John your project is very interesting. I'm sure you are aware of the different builds of the LM386, but I've heard the LM386n-3 push a 2x 12 cab with no problem. But it is all in the design. Your's sounds good and should only be better when enclosed. I'd be curious to see the final and specs. Can you shoot me an email when complete? Thanks.
Thats awesome. I thought you'd steal the speaker from the megaphone. So you just ripped that apart for the electronics only?
It sounds great. good job!
While we're showing off our amps, let me show you something I'm in the middle of:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPAU1SZXu7I
That's the prototype version of the Stella amp, a little battery powered amp that will eventually go in a cigar box. It's a two watt amp, and will run on 3-12 volts (16 volts if you swap out the op amp with one that can take a little more voltage). Right now the output speaker is that computer speaker you see in the background (sorry I didn't make that clear in the video).
I'd be done with it by now if I didn't have three kids under the age of five running around underfoot.
JonBouye,
What I've read suggests that 6 "AA" will far out last a single 9v battery. Your local electronics supply ought to have housings for this configuration. For me the point of a low watt, CBAmp is portability more than power...

Thanks Sam...I saw your vid on YouTube. Great job.
I thought about doing one for myself, but I wanted to see if I could get everything inside the mint tin, lol. I'm doing the research now for my next build. I want to get as much wattage out of a batery powered amp that I can so I'm looking at battery life vs. output power.
I know getting away from a 9v will improve battery longevity. And of course I can always add a wallwart to use when electric hookup is available. Any suggestions?
Here's a youtube vid of the CBAmp made with the gizzards from a $ 6.99 Harbour Freight "Mini Handheld Megaphone"... added a 6 1/2 inch 4 ohm speaker from a fried Rocktron practice amp, and a output jack soldered to the line where the megaphone's microphone used to be. Enjoy.....
The vid. was made with the recording software that came on my laptop. Nothing but the onboard mic. No pedals, no mixing, etc. I think it sounds great.
thanks,
the best,
Wichita Sam
