Roadkill on the radio

Not sure about 15 minutes and even less sure about fame, but tonight at 10pm GMT (Mon 28th November) BCFM - that's Bristol Community FM - is putting out an interview they did with me about cigar box guitars.

The program is called "A Cup of Tea and a piece of Cake" and is hosted by Dave Miles. More details are on their website. For those in the Bristol area (who have absolutely nothing better to do) the program is on 93.2fm. For those not near to Bristol but who are also without anything meaningful in their lives, you can download it afterwards from the website after it has been aired.

I don't know how good it will sound. I sent him some tracks and we did the interview on Skype. I also played some pieces during the Skype call and I understand that he may use some of those. I don't know how much it has been edited down or at what point in the program my bit appears. I was really nervous, especially during the playing bit, and I can't say I was very happy with my playing, Still, I did the best I could.

So, having said all that, Dave does play a very interesting selection of music, and it as more than likely that the other bits will be more interesting than my little segment. Still, it's not everyday that I get interviewed on a radio music program, so I thought I would blow my trumpet a little.

P.P.S. IT'S NOW HAPPENED. My bit started at about 39 minutes into the program. In fact Dave didn't edit much out at all. I hadn't realised how many times I mentioned Cigar Box Nation and I also got two mentions of my own website.

Cringeworthy...I like it. Imagine Bill Nighy in his promoter persona from "The Boat That Rocked:"

"So, Mr. Cringeworthy, tell us how you got involved In building and playing Cigar Box Guitars. Was it really just a not-so-subtle effort to quit smoking, heh, heh?"

"N-no, Dave, it's...it wasn't like that at all. It was...errrmmm...more, oh, how to put this, spir-"

"Yes, well, while Old Cringey here is thinking of a clever answer, let's give the latest Bulgarian Swan Jug Orchestra a twirl, shall we? Here's their remake of the Kinks' You Really Got Me, played on goat horn and cowbell, featuring four-part nasal harmonies!"

"- itual, really. These little cigar box thingies are -"

Quite how you got so much from so little amazes me, but if your job in the Middle East dries up (excuse the pun) then I'm sure you have a great career as an author of fiction (or a playwright or a standup comedian).

Juju. Thanks for taking the time out to have a listen. I am quite relieved actually, although the sound on the music bits seemed to come and go in a strange way. I'm not sure why that should be. It sounded normal during the spoken parts.
