I have removed hinges from some of my boxes, and they come off a lot easier than they go back on. You have to use care to get them to go back into the slots they came out of. I would practice your remove/install process on a junk box first before you try it on a good box.

I have seen a couple that have a little tab that's actually bent over on the inside. Trying to pry these out will result in a lot of damaged wood. I used a Dremel cut-off wheel to cut through the bent-over tab on the inside.

I gave up putting them back in, you almost can not get them to stay once you have disturbed them by removing them, I just go to the lumber yard and buy tiny brass hinges and replace them.

The box I used had these lame pins from the side into the box into the lid. They broke early on in my build and the wood wasn't strong enough to just replace them. I didn't want to just glue the lid shut like some people do, and I didnt want to add visible hinges. I added blocks to the back of the neck on the inside, I hold it in place with just a pin on the front block and a bolt thru the back of the guitar on the back block. —brENDan
