I've used Halfords aerosol clear lacquer. If you use sanding sealer first it is also good for necks and other wooden surfaces

I use rattlecan clear acrylic lacquer...just mist it on very lightly and then build it up in several applications. If you spray until it's wet, the lacquer will soak thru' the paper and cause dark blotches.

Agreed, multiple very light coats of finish to avoid the dark blotches John mentioned.

I use Zinnser Sealcoat shellac. Much less toxic. I just brush it on. Good for necks too. The Sealcoat is supposed to be better than the regular Zinnser Bulls Eye shelllac.
